Meridians

In the previous articles on Yin Yoga and GuaSha massage we mentioned the concept of Meridians. Today we try to get to know them better.
Chinese medicine defines meridians as those energy channels through which Qi (energy) flows throughout the body, including the internal organs.
For our psychophysical balance it is important that energy can flow freely through all the meridians, which if instead present blockages or stagnation, can cause physical pain or states of imbalance.
There are 14 main meridians, each with a Yin or Yang orientation depending on the specific characteristics of the associated organ of reference.
Along the meridians we find particular points that can be stimulated through acupressure, Guasha massage, acupuncture or Asana, in order to mobilize stagnant energy.
6 meridians begin or end in the feet, another 6 in the hands. 2 are not related to any specific organ, but function as main channels and run from the center of the torso to the arms.
Yin Yoga specifically gives us a great advantage for our health: holding positions passively for a prolonged time allows us to recharge and purify the meridians. Precisely for this reason Yin Yoga can be compared to an acupuncture treatment which balances the flow of Qi, avoiding excesses or defects.
